In the afternoon, you will head to the majestic Salah El Din Citadel, also known as the Cairo Citadel. Perched on a hill overlooking the entire city, this powerful fortress was completed in 1182 AD by the great conqueror Salah El-Din to defend the city against Crusaders. Over the centuries, it served as the seat of government and a witness to Egypt’s most significant historical events. Within the citadel walls stands the Mohamed Ali Mosque, famously known as the "Alabaster Mosque." Constructed between 1830 and 1848 AD, this work of art was designed to rival the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. It features a stunning blend of Ottoman architecture and French Rococo influences, adorned with ornate red, green, and gold finishes beneath a magnificent soaring dome.
