Best time to visit: October through April. We schedule the bulk of our own tours in this window for a reason, the desert heat from May through September changes what a comfortable day at Giza actually looks like.
How many days: 3 full days is what we recommend to almost every guest planning a Cairo-focused trip. We can make 1 day work too, we run day tours built for exactly that, but 3 lets the city breathe a little.
Visa: A single-entry e-visa or visa on arrival runs $30 for US citizens as of this year, and we always ask guests to double-check their passport has at least 6 months of validity left, it's the single most common hiccup we see at arrival.
Currency: Egyptian pounds, though our guests get by fine with US dollars for most tourist spending. We do tell everyone to keep some small EGP bills on hand for tipping.
We steer almost everyone toward October through April. It's not just a weather statistic, it's what our own guides notice season to season: guests touring Giza in July are visibly more worn out by midday than guests touring in December. If you can, avoid the December–February peak and aim for the shoulder months instead, October–November or March–April, similar weather, noticeably thinner crowds at the sites we visit most.
